How does Invisalign work?

Before getting your Invisalign aligners, your Allen and McKinney, TX orthodontists, Dr. Ghosh and Dr. Lofgren of Creekview & McKinney Orthodontics, will use special 3D computer technology to map out your treatment plan. This includes deciding which teeth will need to move and where they will need to move to give you the ideal smile.

From this information, your aligners are created. The aligners straighten your smile by placing controlled force on the teeth. Invisalign aligners gently and continuously move your natural teeth in small increments. They are designed to fit closely to your teeth and are contoured around the gums to reduce friction and irritation. This close fit makes for an extremely comfortable feel. Most patients forget they are even wearing their aligners.

When you visit our office for your checkups (which are less frequent than with traditional braces), we will be able to see the changes in your smile. Invisalign aligners are typically worn for a few weeks before being replaced with the next set in your treatment plan. The cost of Invisalign at Creekview & McKinney Orthodontics is also the SAME as that of braces! It’s a great deal, with many simple financing opportunities.
Many dental insurance plans cover Invisalign treatment the same way they cover braces. Your insurance may pay for a certain percentage of your Invisalign treatment, or it may pay for a certain dollar amount. Often there is a lifetime cap on the amount insurance will pay for orthodontic treatment. Ask your benefits manager at work, call your insurance plan’s customer service line, or look through your benefits package for “orthodontic treatment.” Orthodontic treatment is sometimes covered by health, rather than dental insurance, or by orthodontic coverage that you can purchase separately.
It usually takes between 9-18 months to create a beautiful smile using Invisalign. The average length of your treatment plan depends on the severity of your condition. Wearing a retainer after Invisalign treatment is an important step because it keeps your teeth in their new positions. If your child loses an aligner, because of the way we stage our treatment, they can move to the next number aligner and wear it for a longer while. You do NOT have to pay for the missing or lost aligner.
